Setting up your database to manage recipient groups
From EtelligentWiki
Creating grouping fields in your Etelligent database allows you easily segment your recipients by their interests, their demographics, or more formal divides such as the type of customer they are or whether they are a memner or non-member. You can then record whether a recipient is in a group by uploading a spreadsheet or you can get Etelligent to automatically put people into groups by their actions (e.g. clicking a link, submitting a survey). This is called active profiling.
Note: Before you proceed, you should be clear about whether you require inclusive recipient groups or exclusive recipient groups. In other words, is it acceptable for a recipient to be in more than one group or are your groups exclusive?
The fields you create for your groups will hold a True/False value, which tells Etelligent whether a contact is a part of the group or not.
Note: In Etelligent, and many databases, a True value is represented by a numeric 1. False is represented by a numeric 0.
Putting contacts into groups
A contact could become a member of a group by a variety of methods.
- Etelligent can automatically put a contact into a group if they click a particular link or submit a survey. See Modify Contact Information.
- You can upload a group of contacts and get Etelligent to put them into your contact group. See putting uploaded contacts into an existing group.
