Preparing Images
From EtelligentWiki
Etelligent does not have image editing and only very basic resizing capabilities. This means that before you upload an image it must first be prepared using appropriate software such as Adobe Photoshop. This is the most popular package but other image editing software is available. Image editing software will allow to
- Crop the image
- Size the image (usually measured in pixels)
- Choose the quality of the image (usually measured in dots per inch or dpi)
- Select the image file type
An image can originate from a digital camera, a scanner or simply created using image creation software. Images captured from external devices may be in a file size and file format that is not suitable for the Web. Images need to be of both appropriate file type and size.
When preparing images you need to check...
Images are saved as .jpg, .gif or an 8-bit .png. As a guide use .jpg [jay-peg] if it is a photo, or a .gif [gif] if it is an illustration made up of predominantly solid colours e.g. a logo.
Images are resized to the size you want it to appear. It is not advised to resize it in Etelligent as this will not reduce the file size, it will simply display a potentially very large file as a very small image.
Save the file for 72dpi. Saving as higher will result in a much higher resolution that will be lost as most monitors can only display at 72dpi therefore the extra encoding is wasted.
Naming Images
When naming images use lower case letters and dont use any symbols (e.g.+,&£) except _ and - as this can result in the image not being displayed.
File Size
If the file size of the image [on Windows you can right click on the file and select properties to find this out] is greater than say 300K then you may have not reduced the image size. File sizes of < 100K are common.
