Merge Fields
From EtelligentWiki
You can merge data from the contact's database record into:
- The Subject Line of an Email
- The content of an Email
- A hyperlink
Merge Fields can be entered directly or selected from the Merge Fields drop-down list in the Editor. The list will show all the fields on the contact record plus the two special Merge Fields: Name and Formal Name.
--name-- will look for data to merge in the following order:
- The contents of the First Name field, provided that it is more than 2 characters long.
- The Contact's Title and Last Name provided that both exist.
- The fallback Default Salutation as specified on the Email Properties screen
--formalName-- will look for data to merge in the following order:
- The Contact's Title and Last Name, provided that both exist.
- The fallback Default Salutation as specified on the Email Properties screen
The purpose of this functionality is to ensure that if you use the construction "Dear --name--," Etelligent will never display 'Blank' in place of the name, which would give you "Dear ," .
Note that none of the other fields in the contact's database have a default fallback setting.
