Google Analytics Integration

From EtelligentWiki

Etelligent has the capability to integrate with Google Analytics to help you learn about where your visitors come from, and how they interact with your site. You can find out more about Google Analytics in general by following the external links shown in 'Useful links...' below.

You will need to set-up a Google Analytics account and prepare your website to operate with the analytics tool. You must do this otherwise invoking the Etelligent option will have no effect.

You can either use Etelligent's global 'apply analytics to all links' option or you can manually code each URL as appropriate.

We understand that Google only updates its analytics reports once every 24 hours; check Google's website for more information. This can make testing your email a problem so do make sure that you leave enough time for testing especially the first time you use this facility.

Global Integration Option

To invoke this capability all you need to do is to check the box Google Analytics Tagging when you edit Email Properties. When you take this option the following additional options will appear as properties of the email

Google Analytics Tagging

The additional parameters are:

Campaign Source (utm_source) This will tell the analytics package that the website visitor is being directed to the website from the Etelligent package. The default value is 'Etelligent'.

Campaign Medium (utm_medium) The advertising/marketing medium that is being employed is email. The default value is 'Email'.

Campaign Name (utm_campaign) This identifies the individual campaign which prompted the site visitor. The default value is the Title that you have given to the email.

Content (utm_content) This will be set by Etelligent to the subject line of the email. You cannot change the value passed except by changing the subject of the email.

Apply to these Domains Here you can specify the domain links that you would like the Google Analytics tags applied to. In an email you might direct visitors to your own website with Google Analytics implemented. There might also be links to third party sites, and in that case you might not what the analytics tags applied. In that case, you would only enter the domain of your own website here.

When you have done this, these parameters (or name/value pairs) will be added onto the URLs inserted in the email.

Manual Integration

If you would prefer, you can manually add the parameters onto the end of your URLs. This should be done if for some reason you only want a limited number of links to integrate with the analytics.
