Hard Bounce: Failed to connect to destination
When a Bounce is reported as "failed to connect to destination" or ETHB, the email being sent never leaves the Etelligent server. Typically, this is because of issues with the destination domain or mail box.
Hard Bounce: Email rejected by destination
"Email rejected by destination" or EXHB Bounces are reported when an email successfully leaves the Etelligent server, but then bounces back from a contact's mail server.
This can occur where an email is sent to an account that no longer exists or when a mailbox is full.
Changing How the Bounce Types are Defined
Should you wish, you can modify how Etelligent defines the above Bounce Types by changing the Conditions for the two Rules in your installation's Bounce Management that log Bounces.
NOTE: Customising your Bounce Management Rules without being very clear of the implications could mistakenly unsubscribe contacts.
Hard Bounce Count
Each time either type of Bounce occurs for a contact, Etelligent will increment their Hard Bounce Count. This is an internal value that cannot be viewed or adjusted. Once this number reaches the Hard Bounce Limit (as set in an installation's Bounce Management) Etelligent will mark the contact as a Bad Address and remove them from future mailings.
