Add New Inbox

From EtelligentWiki

Adding a new Inbox is a very simple process. Go to your 'Inbox List' found in the 'Email Marketing' section under 'Feedback', click 'Add New Inbox', enter an email address and a name for the Inbox then click the Submit button. Etelligent will create your new Inbox in your installation and it will immediately be available in the Edit Email Properties page as a new address in the From and ReplyTo dropdowns.

There are however a couple of things to be aware of before adding a new Inbox...

Email addresses being used by Inboxes should end in "@emarketing.etelligent.co.uk" unless you have contacted us to set up a domain of your own to use.

If the email address entered is already in use, Etelligent will display an error message and the Inbox will not be created.

If you are adding a new email address that does not end in "@emarketing.etelligent.co.uk" and you have not contacted us to set up the domain it uses, a few things will happen:

  • Replies and bounces won't come back to the Etelligent server so you'll need to manually unsubscribe anyone that replies asking to be unsubscribed.
  • Because replies and bounces don't come back to Etelligent, the Reporting won't show any Bounces.
  • Some recipients may not receive your Emails if their email software uses SPF (Sender Policy Framework) to check for spam.
SPF is used to check that a mail server is "allowed" to deliver email for the domain that appears in the From address contained in the email.
Because the Etelligent mail server is hosted at the domain etelligent.co.uk, if you were to send Emails with the From Address set to an Inbox of kayleigh.sparks@colony101.co.uk, SPF checks would very likely indicate that your Emails were spam as they are claiming to be from the colony101.co.uk domain but are actually being sent by a server at etelligent.co.uk.
It is possible to create SPF records in your own domain so that Etelligent's mail servers pass SPF checks when sending from email addresses at your own domain; get in touch with your support team if you wish to know more.

If you wish to avoid the issues above, there are still some ways of making Emails appear more personal, as if they've come directly from yourself rather than an email marketing system:

  • Set both the Friendly Names of your Emails. For example to "Kayleigh Sparks" and leave the From and ReplyTo addresses as ones ending in "@emarketing.etelligent.co.uk".
  • If you want human-generated replies (those where one of your recipients has clicked the "Reply" button in their email client and sent something back to you) to go to a specific email address (for example "kayleigh.sparks@colony101.co.uk"), create a new Inbox with that email address and set that address as the ReplyTo address only on the Edit Email Properties page, leaving the From address as a "@emarketing.etelligent.co.uk" one.
